Workshop Lighting Upgrade
Bell Fabrications asked us to review the existing lighting in their manufacturing workshop. The fittings were 400W metal halide low bay lights, 12 years old and no longer producing a sufficient lux level for the manufacturing environment.
Project overview
Bell Fabrications asked us to review the existing lighting in their manufacturing workshop. The fittings were 400W metal halide low bay lights, 12 years old and no longer producing a sufficient lux level for the manufacturing environment.
The challenge: design a lighting system that delivers the required light levels and is energy efficient, without major alterations to the existing wiring.
What we did
- Our design replaced the fittings with Tamlite energy efficient T5 fluorescent fittings with high output, mirrored louvres and intelligent ballasts.
- We fitted covers to protect the louvres from the dust produced by the welding sets, which makes cleaning easier and prolongs the life of each fitting.
- The light output increased threefold with the same number of fittings, connected to the existing wiring with only minor alterations.
The result
A lighting system that complies with the requirements for the working environment, saves money and reduces the company’s carbon footprint. Measuring kWh usage month by month against previous years, the client has seen electricity costs fall by 12 to 14%.

“Humphreys Electrical have been looking after all our electrical needs for many years, so we were confident when we approached them with concerns regarding our lighting that they would come up with a solution. Once again they have solved a problem with the minimum disruption to our operation and with the results promised in their design.”
